Waterfront Regulations
The waterfront facilities are provided and maintained by the Conomo Point Association (“CPA”). Any person using the waterfront facilities does so at their own risk, is expected to abide by the following rules and to insure that family members and guests do likewise.
FLOATS:
- The outside of the “T” float is for the loading and unloading of boats only.
- Boats may not be left unattended outside of the “T” float. Boats may be left on the inside floats for a period not to exceed thirty (30) minutes. Boaters using the Floats shall always leave room for other boat access.
- Children ages 8 or under must be accompanied by an adult or, must wear a lifejacket (“PFD”) on the floats at all times. PFD’s are required for all nonswimmers, regardless of age.
- There is no lifeguard on the Farnsworth Pier. All persons using the Farnsworth Piers do so at their own risk. Parents/guardians are cautioned not to leave children unattended.
- The following are prohibited on the floats at all times: Horseplay, running, shoving, fishing, all commercial use, and open alcoholic beverages.
CPA COMMUNITY SKIFFS (aka Dinghies, Rowboats)::
- The skiffs are provided solely for transportation to and from moorings for members of the CPA. They shall not be kept away from the floats for longer than necessary. Leaving skiffs on a mooring is strictly prohibited.
- Skiffs are not to be used for any other personal or commercial purpose or by children for play.
- The skiffs should be tied securely to the inside of the main outer float (the top of the “T”) and not subjected to abuse.
- Any damage or need for repair or replacement should be reported promptly to the Lifeguard on duty or to an Officer of the CPA.
- When using skiffs, children under 12 must wear a PFD and there must be one PFD for every adult on board.
Please remember to place the oars inside the skiff before exiting the boat.
MOORINGS:
- The location of moorings and the scope thereof are subject to the approval of the Town of Essex Harbormaster.
SWIMMERS:
- Swimmers and sunbathers shall stay clear of boats at all times.
- Boat operators must proceed cautiously, observing the no wake zones in Essex Bay, and shall watch for people in the water.
- Swimming on the outside of the “T” float is specifically prohibited on weekends.
BOAT OPERATORS:
Operating at greater than headway speed (6 mph or less) within 150 feet of a swimmer, water-skier, Town mooring, CPA Float, or when the operator’s vision is obscured in any way is strictly prohibited.
PICNICS & SUNBATHING:
- No picnicking is permitted on the main floats. When the main float is crowded, the beach by the main stone pier, the mud flat, and Farnsworth Pier can be used for sunbathing.
- No trash shall be left on the main floats, Farnsworth Pier, main stone pier, mud flats, beaches, or any other surrounding areas.
DOGS:
- Dogs are prohibited from the floats unless closely leashed.
LIABILITY:
- All persons using the floats, skiffs, and other equipment do so at their own risk. The CPA will not be responsible for any injury or death to any persons or any loss or damage to or diminution of value of any property related to the use of CPA Waterfront facilities.
ENFORCEMENT:
- These rules and regulations will be enforced whenever necessary by the Board of Directors of the Conomo Point Association and their designees, including but not limited to the Waterfront Supervisor, Lifeguard on duty, the Wharf Committee, and the Association Officers.
